San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
1301 State Highway 123
San Marcos, Texas 78666
Phone 512/396-6834

February 25, 1988

Stephanie Langenkamp
Library Director
San Marcos Public Library
310 W. Hutchison
San Marcos, Tx 78666

Dear Ms. Langenkamp:

I am pleased to have this opportunity to express my support for your
efforts to secure a federal grant. It is my understanding that this
grant will be utilized to provide services for those persons for
whom English is their second language.

It has been my observation that in this region of the state the
demand for such services far outdistances the availability. San
Marcos in particular has many adults who have limited or non-existant
English skills. We definitely try to address this problem through
our night school program. The state of the Texas economy has, however,
brought about cutbacks that prevent our programs from being offered
at the levels necessary to fill all of the need.

From my point of view, I see your efforts to provide services to
this group in our community not as something that will compete with
our programs, but as something that will compliment our efforts. It
is my sincere hope that through programs such as ours and the ones
that you propose, we can better serve the needs of all the non-English
speaking persons who desire assistance in this community. I commend
you for your efforts to establish these services and wish you the best
in securing grant approval.

Sincerely,

~o1-. ~

Director
Vocational Education
Adult & Continuing Education
