Census of Population and Housing <br />SOURCE supplied to us by the Capital Area Planning Council <br />FOR POPULATION STATISTICS <br /> <br />PROJECT GOALS: <br />1) To provide free English as a second language tutoring as well as <br />continuing to provide free literacy and GED tutoring for adults. <br /> <br />2) To develop the library as a center for information about the services <br />of local social service agencies. <br /> <br />3) To take a story time program into the Hispanic community in order <br />to introduce this community to the library and the wonders of reading. <br /> <br />4) To publicize the services and resources of the public library to those <br />for whom English is a second language. <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF OBJECTIVES <br />AND ACTIVITIES: <br />We will "recruit and train volunteers to teach English as a second language. <br />We will expand the libraryls Lifelong Learning Collection to include materials <br />to support an ESL tutoring program. <br />We will provide at least 1,300 hours of free ESL, GED and literacy tutoring. <br />We will gather, display and distribute brochures about area social services. <br />We will publish a bilingual social services directory and sponsor a social <br />services fair. <br />We will take twenty weekly story time programs out into the Hispanic commun- <br />community. <br />We will produce and distribute three bilingual fliers to advertise the services <br />and materials of the public library. <br /> <br />10-1 <br />
