149 ORDINANCE 1988-4~ AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS ADOPTING A NEW SECTION 5-39 TO BE ADDED TO DIVISION 2 OF ARTICLE II OF CHAPTER 5 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF SAID CITY AMENDING TABLE M-2 OF APPENDIX M OF THE 1985 EDITION OF THE STANDARD BUILDING CODE TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF PARKING SPACES AND LOADING ZONES REQUIRED TO BE RESERVED FOR THE HANDICAPPED, RENUMBERING SEQUENTIALLY THE REMAINING SECTIONS OF SAID DIVISION OF SAID ARTICLE OF SAID CHAPTER OF SAID CODE, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. Whereas, pursuant to Article 7 of Article 6Ølb, V.A.C.S., the State Purchasing and General Services Commission has adopted standards and specifications to further the policy of the State of Texas to encourage and promote the rehabilitation of handicapped or disabled citizens and to eliminate, insofar as possible, unnecessary barriers encountered by aged, handicapped, or disabled persons whose ability to engage in gainful occupations or to achieve maximum personal independence is needlessly restricted when such persons cannot readily use public buildings; now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That new Section 5-39 shall be added to Division 2 of Article II of Chapter 5 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of San Marcos, Texas which shall read as follows: Chapter 5 BUILDINGS AND BUILDING REGULATIONS . . . DIVISION 2. AMENDMENTS . . . Sec. 5-39. Table M-2, Appendix M Table M-2 of Appendix M is hereby amended to read as follows: TABLE t-1- 2 PARKING SPACES AND PASSENGER LOADING ZONES FOR HANDICAPPED Total Spaces or Zones Required Number to be Reserved for Handicapped 1-50 5l-1ØØ 101-300 301-5Ø0 over S00 1 2 3 5 1.0% of total SECTION 2. That the remaining sections of said di vision of said article of said chapter of the Code of Ordinances shall be renumbered sequentially. SECTION 3. That this Ordinance shall be in effect ten (10) days from and after its passage, and it shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the area as required by the Charter of the City of San Marcos, Texas.
