150 ORDINANCE 1988-S01l AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING SECTION 20-3, AMENDMENTS TO PLUMBING CODE, OF ARTICLE II. OF CHAPTER 20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO ADOPT CERTAIN SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR PLUMBING PROJECTS WITHIN SAID CITY INVOLVING TRENCH EXCAVATION EXCEEDING A DEPTH OF FIVE (5) FEET, RENUMBERING SEQUENTIALLY AMENDMENTS MADE TO THE PLUMBING CODE BY THIS ORDINANCE AND BY ORDINANCES ADOPTED ON FEBRUARY 23,1987 AND JUNE 22, 1987, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Section 20-3, Amendments to Plumbing Code, of Article II of Chapter 20 of the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended to add the following to Section 404.2 of the Plumbing Code: Sec. 20-3. Amendments to Standard Plumbing Code. . . . 404.2--0PEN TRENCHES . . . On all projects, public or private, within the boundaries of the City of San Marcos, Texas involving installation of plumbing piping, fixtures, equipment or appurtenances which may be connected to the City water or sewerage system and which will require trench excavation in excess of a depth of five (5) feet, the bid documents and/or the contract for the project shall contain: (1) detailed plans and specifications for adequate trench safety systems that meet OSHA standards, and (2) a pay item for those safety systems. In the absence of such bid documents and/or contract, detailed plans and specifications shall be prepared which contain adequate trench safety systems that meet OSHA standards. SECTION 2. That the foregoing amendment of the Plumbing Code set forth in Section 1 above, and previous amendments to the Plumbing Code made by Ordinance 1987-36 adopted February 23, 1987 and Ordinance 1987-88 adopted June 22,1987 shall be placed in proper sequential order in Section 20-3 of said Article of said Chapter of said Code. SECTION 3. That this Ordinance shall be in effect ten (10) days from and after its passage, and it shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the area as required by the Charter of the City of San Marcos, Texas.
