<br />34 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 1988-120R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, APPROVING A TEXAS EMERGENCY SHELTER <br />GRANTS PROGRAM APPLICATION, AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION AND TO ACT AS <br />THE CITY'S EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND AUTHORIZED <br />REPRESENTATIVE WITH RESPECT TO THE GRANT, COMMITTING A <br />BUILDING AND OTHER VALUABLE CONSIDERATION WORTH <br />$119,000.00 AS MATCHING FUNDS, AND ESTABLISHING AN <br />EFFECTI VE DATE. <br /> <br />vlliEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos desires to <br />develop a viable urban community, including the expansion of the <br />quantity and improvement of the quality of emergency shelters for the <br />homeless; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, certain conditions exist which represent a threat to the <br />health and safety of the homeless; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary and in the best interests of the City of <br />San Marcos to apply for funding under the 1988 Texas Emergency Shelter <br />Grants Program; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council desires to apply for $119,000.00 of <br />grant funds to carry out the rehabilitation of Southside Center for <br />the Homeless; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />IT <br /> <br />RESOLVED <br /> <br />BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> <br />CITY <br /> <br />OF SAN MARCOS, <br /> <br />PART 1: That an application for funding under the Texas <br />Emergency Shelter Grants Program, to renovate the Southside Community <br />Center and to establish and operate a lunch food program for the <br />homeless is approved. <br /> <br />PART 2. That the City Manager is authorized to submit the <br />application to the Texas Department of Community Affairs and place it <br />in competition for funding under the Emergency Shelter Grants Fund and <br />as the City's Chief Executive Officer is designated as its <br />Authorized Repesentative to act in all matters in connection with this <br />application and the City's participation in the Texas Emergency <br />Shelter Grants Program. <br /> <br />PART 3. That the City of San Marcos through an agreement <br />with the Southside Community Center will donate parts of buildings, <br />cash contributions and other valuable consideration worth <br />$119,000.00 to be used as an emergency shelter by the Southside <br />Center, as matching value for the grant. <br /> <br />PART 4. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect <br />from and after its passage. <br /> <br />ADOPTED this <br /> <br />28 <br /> <br />day of <br /> <br />r.°J7?
