manifested in the form of demand for facilities (hangars, tie-downs,
maintenance, etc.), and in services (specialized maintenance
facilities, flight operations, charter, air taxi, etc.). With the
generally increasing trends in fuel cost during the 1981-1986
time frame, there may be a subst:antial increase for air transportation
to relatively close destinations, i.e., Dallas, Houston, Corpus
Christi, etc., which could give considerable stimulus to the
introductioo of oommuter airline service.

Industrial and commercial development are also key factors in
influencing air traffic at local use airports, both as a basis for
transportation of personnel and materials, and often as a site for
industrial or canmercial act! vities.

AU:~ Activity PomaIsts

There are several significant factors that will influence future
aircraft activity at San Marcos. '!be primary factors are:

o Numbers of based aircraft.
o '1'ra.ini.nq act! vity .
o Business and economic acti vi ty in the area served by the
airport.
o 'lb! extent of airport and industrial developnent.
o Size and character of the business community using the
airport for transportation purposes and for shipment of
goods .
o Facilities improvements, including the installation of
navigation aids (ILS, VOR, etc.) and maintenance/storage
hangars.

Although a detailed review of economic history and studies of
business, socio-eoonomi.c, and cultural factors influencing aviation
activity is not possible in this limited study, it is apparent that
basic growth statistics of key economic factors at San Marcos indicate
st.ra1g oonsistent economic growth during the last decade. The influx
of new businesses resulting in favorable geographic, economic, and
social factors continues, and there is considerable evidence to
indicate that current growth rates will be sustained in the future.

Within reason, the activity forecasts for San Marcos reflect
restrained optimism with respect to historical growth rates.
Forecasts for different scenarios are also shown to permit analysis of
the possible impacts of various influences, including the installation
of an Instrument Landing System (ILS).

1.5
