IaDd use - Rr:llI.. _._~lALia:Is

'!be original recommendation, identifying land use alternative D as the
most realistic method of providing for the efficient development and
operation of San Marcos Municipal Airport through the year 2005 is
still valid.

The recommended land use plan is illustrated in Figure 5.5 and
includes the expansion of the existing aircraft parking apron and
flight line facilities eastward, and would include all the area
between the existing apron edge (parallel to Runway 08-26) and Kane
Avenue, and between the old fuel storage area al the west and Building
lO-357 on the east. This entire area would be developed as the
primary area for airPOrt operations, including two fixed base
q&:ators, maintenance facilities, transient parking areas and related
aviation development. This development is schematically shown in
Figure 5.5

In order to develop this land use plan, it would be necessary to
recover approximately 37 acres of land from Gary Job Corps Center.
'1hi.s area is immediately east of the existing terminal area.

The total land area to be acquired includes Kane Avenue, from the
intersection of Kane and 5th Street eastward approximately to the
intersection of Kane and lOth Street. The proposed property
acqaisiticm excludes the block between Kane and 9th Street, and Kane
and 10th Street containing buildings 9-352, 9-350, 9-355, 9-357, 9-
358, and 9-36l. This area also encompasses the Gary Job Corps Fire
Station, presently located in Building 6-367~ however, it is not
anticipated that the Fire Station, the driveways, or land area
immediately surrounding it would be included in the land to be
aoquired

ib! transfer of the land area along the flight line would PerIni. t the
development of airport operational facilities through the year 2005,
and would make development of various necessary facilities in a
logical and economical plan possible. The use of Kane Avenue as an
access road to the facilities would be an important improvement to
airport development, and would be essential if the eastern 37 acres
does bea:me available for use by the City of San Marcos.

Most of the existing apron is in good condition. The proposed land
acquisition from Gary Job Corps will permit the procurement of
sufficient land with good apron frontage upon which needed aviation
facilities can be cxmstructed.

5.l4
