workforce training and programs to employ veterans; strengthen Pre -K to16 <br />education; and increase funding for adult education and literacy. <br />Public Safety <br />• Support federal grant programs that advance police and fire public safety <br />programs for assistance with equipment, training and personnel. In particular <br />assist with the effort to acquire a Regional Tactical Operations Command Center <br />and support efforts related to the Assistance to Firefighters grant application. <br />National Data Accuracy <br />Support legislative opportunities to ensure that accurate and thorough data is <br />collected and protected for use in planning and funding allocation purposes, <br />including the U.S. Census, American Community Survey, National Oceanic and <br />Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) , and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Federal data <br />is utilized not only to provide each city a snapshot of its population and local <br />statistics, but also provides a means for comparison across the nation. These <br />data sources should be strengthened, be protected and follow Constitutional <br />Principles. <br />Special Events <br />Support efforts related to special events including inviting high -level dignitaries <br />to visit the City and elevating key programs and initiatives to national recognition <br />in Washington. These include the Crossroads Memorial Dedication in late <br />January 2014 and all logistical support related to the Regional Conference being <br />held at the Municipal Airport by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association <br />(AOPA) in April 2014, and other activities of interest at the federal level that may <br />be scheduled during the year. <br />3 <br />
