Dea&J:rI <br />SUBJECT: Resolution of State Grant <br />DATE: April 12, 1984 RE:Crime Prevention Ccxxlinator <br />On Tuesday, April 4, 1984, the Systems Carmittee of the Capitol Area Planning Council con- <br />sidered the "Crime Prevention Coordinator" Grant, one of two Grant Applications submitted <br />in 1984 by the Police Department. <br />The Crime Prevention Grant is this coming year to be a "continuation" grant that in rrost <br />cases run concurrently for a five (5) year period. Each year the program expense depre- <br />ciates by twenty (20) percent. This cc:ming year, the second year of the grant, the <br />pro};Dsal will require a twenty (20) percent corrmittrnent by the City, and eighty (80) <br />percent by the State. The intent of the Grant Criminal Justice Project Funding is to <br />provide "seed" rronies into growing ccmnunities. To "plant" successful Criminal Justice <br />Programs that will benefit and grow in the individual serviced comnunities. <br />This second year Grant Application requested the following funds for the continuation of <br />the program: <br /> $ 8,842.05 City Funding <br /> 21,650.12 State Funding <br />Total Pro j ect Expense $30,492.17 <br />During the neeting of the "Systems Corrmittee" a detailed presentation was made, describing <br />the successes of the "Crime Prevention Coordinator" during its first year of funding. The <br />Conmi ttee is oonsidering the Grant Application for refunding, placed the City of San Marcos <br />nurriber two (2) in priority of four other similar grants, submitted by other agencies. The <br />grant application was prioritized wi thin the available rronies and at this };Dint will be <br />granted by the GoveTIlor' s Office of Criminal Justice. <br />In the Crime Prevention Units first eight rronths of operation, its accomplishment has been <br />outstanding and well received by the carmunity. In addition to the organization of ten (10) <br />Neighborhood Watch groups, the Coordinator has oonducted fifty-four (54) public speaking <br />engagerÅ“nts, distributed approximately 2,600 Crime Prevention related pieces of literature, <br />fingerprinted over seven hundred (700) children, received supplerÅ“ntal radio equi:¡;:ment, a <br />l6nm rrotion picture projector, rrovie screen, IBM Typewriter, office equi:¡;:ment and resulted <br />
