EXHIBIT C
ADDENDUM TO ORDINANCE NO. 1975 -
SPECIFICATIONS FOR OFF-STREET P&~ING
LOT PAVD1ENT CONSTRUCTION
1. Sub-base.
a). This item shall govern the placement and compaction of all materials
obtained fran roadway, horrow, channel and structural excavation for utilization
in the construction of off-street parking lots.
b). Construction Methods.
The area shall be cleared of stumps, brush, logs, rubbish, trees and
shrubs, except trees and shrubs in certain areas designated by the Engineer for
preservation. Those trees, shrubs and other landscape features specifically
designated by the Engineer for preservation shall be carefully protected from
abuse, marring and damage during construction. Trees and shrubs designated for
preservation that must be pruned shall be trinmed as directed and all exposed cuts
over Uvo inches (2") in diameter shall be treated with an approved asphaltic material.
Areas required for parking lot construction shall be cleared and grubbed
of all stumps and roots (except for designated trees and shrubs). Stump holes or
other small excavations in the limits of the construction shall be back-filled
with suitalbe material and thoroughly tamped by approved methods before crnmencing
embankment construction. The surface of the ground, including plowed loosened
ground or surface. roughened by small washes or otherwise shall œ restored by
blading or other methods, and, where indicated on plans or required by L1ìe Engineer,
the ground surface thus prepared shall be compacted by sprinkling and rolling.
íl'Jhere indicated on plans or directed by the Engineer, the surface of
hillsides to receive embankment shall be loosened by scarifying or plowing to a
depth of not less than four ( 4) inches, or cut unto steps before embankment
materials are placed. The embankment shall then be placed in layers, as herein-
after specified, beginning at the low side in part width layers and increasing
the widths as the embankment is raised. The material which has been loosened
shall be recompacted simultaneously with the embankment material placed at the
same elevation.
Except as otherwise required by the plans, all parking lots shall be
constructed in layers approximately parallel to the finished grade of the roadbed
and unless otherwise specified each layer shall be so constructed as to provide
a uniform slope of one-fourth (1/4) inch per foot.
c). Earth fill - Earth fill shall be defined as that composed principally
of material other than rock, and shall be constituted of accepted material from
approved sources.
Except as otherwise specified, earth embankIT£nt filling shall be
constructed in successive layers for D1e full width of the individual parking lot
cross-section and in such lengths as are best suited to the sprinkling and
compaction methods utilized.
Layers of embankment may be formed by utilizing equipnent which will
spread the material as it is dumped, or they may be formed by being spread by
blading or other acceptable methods from plies or windrows dumped from excavating
or hauling equipnent in such amounts that materials is evenly distributed.
Each layer of earth fill shall be uniform as to material, density and
moisture content before beginning compaction. Where layers of unlike materials
abut each other, each layer shall be featheredged for at least one hundred (100)
feet or the material shall be so mixed as to prevent abrupt changes in the soil.
No material placed in the embankment by dumping in a pile or windrow shall be
incorporated in a layer in that position, but all such piles or windrows shall
be moved by blading or similar methods.
Compaction of embankments shall be obtained by the method hereinafter des-
cribed as "Ordinary Compaction".
