-2-
LENGTH OF STUDY
August 15, 1984 to December 31, 1984.
OBJECTIVES
The primary goal of this study is to produce a series of overlaying maps
that can be used for planning purposes to minimize the impact of develop~ent
on the Edwards Limestone Aquifer. In addition, information on local groundvlater
flow as interpreted from dye traces, well water chemistry, and changes in
water chemistry of the Springs and area wells will be discussed. The follol'ling
is a list of specific maps to be made and additional objec ti ves:
1. Produce a photo-lineament/fracture map of the study area.
2. Produce a map showing the location of wells.
3. Produce a water table map. This can be used to show the depth to water
at sites of interest.
4. Produce a map showing the locations of caves, sinkholes, and minor and major
stream pathways that can act as recharge points.
5. Produce a map showing thickness of cover over the Edwards.
6. Produce a detailed geology map from published data.
7. Produce a map outlining the first order basins that empty into Purgatory
and Sink creeks.
8. Perform a couple of dye traces to better define ground water flow paths.
9. Discuss the implications of spring and well water chemistry on ground
water occurrence and movement.
METHODS
The following is a brief description of the method to be utilized for
preparing the maps listed in the objectives:
1. Photo-lineament/Fracture map
Black and white, 1;24,000 scale, aerial photographs will be used for defining
large karst feòtures (ex. sinkholes, caves, and open fractures), and
various types of topographic and color tone alignments that could represent
fractures that act as recharge points and avenues of groundwater movement.
2. Well Location Map
A door-to-door survey and well driller's logs will be used to gather as
many well locations as possible within the time-limitation of the proposed
study period.
