Part IV (continued)
3. APPROACH.
a. Statement of tasks involved in producing the results or benefits
expected.
Simply the purchase of the equipment and is integration into our current communications system
will provide numerous improvements. Wilen communications personnel have been trained properly
in the operation of the new equipment, the efficiency of communication, safety of individual
c icers and reduced stress on the dispatcher will be greatly enhanced. The tape/logging
~ tern will virtually elliminate the loss of important information by maintaining a continuous
l__ord of telepnone conversations and radio transmissions. The dispatchers attention will now
he more directed at radio and telephone operation by reducing required paper documentation.
The reduced responsibility will reduce the stress factor considerably. The equipment will not
only improve the communication capabilities of the department but will be of valuable assistance
in the prosecution of cases, in properly investigating citizen complaints and in departmental
internal investigations.
b. Accomplishments or goals. See general instructions. As an aid in
completing this item please note the suggested format for itemizing
or quantifying this data on the Indicators of Goal Achievement (suggested
format attached). The indicators should conform to the performance
indicators outlined in the appropriate program description in the
Criminal Justice Plan.
Initially the system will drastically reduce the overall work required by the dispatcher.
The tape/logging equipment will increase the use of documented radio and telephone information
in investigations. At present, little documented information is at our disposal for use
in court, for use in the disposition of complaints and for internal investigations.
There will be a substantial increase in the number of investigation where this documented
information is available. It will increase the research and documentation of questionable
radio and telephone transmissions. It will provide a new opportunity to evaluate the
j performance of both the dispatcher and officer.
c. Data. See general instructions. Also this section can be used to
explain or clarify "Indicators of Goal Achievement" if this format
is used by the applicant.
N/A
