For specific <br /> detail see Instructions~ Part IV ~ Program Narrative~ <br /> Attachment t1~ "Uni form Grant & Contract r.1anagement <br /> Standards". <br /> 1. OBJECTIVES AND NEED FOR THIS ASSISTANCE. Brief and concise summary of the <br /> background and nature of the problem. Include specific data and cite sources. <br /> The Police Department and its new Coordinator will begin the tedious process of educating <br /> the community into cooperation with "the Department and new Neighborhood Watch programs. <br /> He will educate the people to help themselves. To provide awareness of crime and other <br /> suspicious activities. To inspire the sincere and dedicated citizens to help them into <br /> helping themselves. <br /> To provide the incentive, to show the people that the program can and will be successful <br /> in their neighborhoods, the Coordinator must' have at his disposal equipment and other <br /> visual aids to spur cooperation. <br /> The Dep~rtment at present is examining the possibility of organizing a new completely <br /> volunteer "Reserve Officer Force". It will consist of honest, interested and dedicated <br /> citizens from ~lithin every aspect of the community. In addition to the "Reserve Officers", <br /> the Department is involved in anExplorer Post Program with the High School here. There <br /> are approx. 20 young men and women who enjoy their association and learn from the Police. <br /> It will be these dedicated individulas that will initiate a sucessful Neighborhood Watch <br /> program. The coordinator, with the assistance of many of these volunteers will assigne <br /> individuals a Neighborhood Watch Post. Sent into neighborhood areas that have been <br /> particularly active, the extra eyes in radio contact with the Department, will provide <br /> the foundation for a progressive and successful process of citizen involvement in caring <br /> for the community. <br /> 2. RESULTS OR BENEFITS EXPECTED. Brief and concise narrative of the overall <br /> purpose of the project~ or \'Jhat is expected to be accompl ished by the project. <br /> The purpose of this project is to provide funding assistance for the purchase of three <br /> portable radios, a motion picture projector, mileage reembursement for volunteers and <br /> other miscellaneous items such as Crime Prevention Literature, Nieghborhood Watch Signs <br /> and mailing costs. <br /> The new radio equipment will be for the use of the Police Department Coordinator and his/he; <br /> volunteer force. Before the programs can become completely successful and self sufficient, <br /> the department must expand community awareness by providing literature, lectures, equipment <br /> and some other expenses such as mileage reembursement to inspire its success. <br />
