PART IV. PROGRAM NARRATIVE. The followiny suggested format is provided for use wi1 applications for criminal justice funds. For specific detail see Instructions~ Part IV ~ Program Narrative~ Attachment t1~ "Uni form Grant & Contract r.1anagement Standards". 1. OBJECTIVES AND NEED FOR THIS ASSISTANCE. Brief and concise summary of the background and nature of the problem. Include specific data and cite sources. The Police Department and its new Coordinator will begin the tedious process of educating the community into cooperation with "the Department and new Neighborhood Watch programs. He will educate the people to help themselves. To provide awareness of crime and other suspicious activities. To inspire the sincere and dedicated citizens to help them into helping themselves. To provide the incentive, to show the people that the program can and will be successful in their neighborhoods, the Coordinator must' have at his disposal equipment and other visual aids to spur cooperation. The Dep~rtment at present is examining the possibility of organizing a new completely volunteer "Reserve Officer Force". It will consist of honest, interested and dedicated citizens from ~lithin every aspect of the community. In addition to the "Reserve Officers", the Department is involved in anExplorer Post Program with the High School here. There are approx. 20 young men and women who enjoy their association and learn from the Police. It will be these dedicated individulas that will initiate a sucessful Neighborhood Watch program. The coordinator, with the assistance of many of these volunteers will assigne individuals a Neighborhood Watch Post. Sent into neighborhood areas that have been particularly active, the extra eyes in radio contact with the Department, will provide the foundation for a progressive and successful process of citizen involvement in caring for the community. 2. RESULTS OR BENEFITS EXPECTED. Brief and concise narrative of the overall purpose of the project~ or \'Jhat is expected to be accompl ished by the project. The purpose of this project is to provide funding assistance for the purchase of three portable radios, a motion picture projector, mileage reembursement for volunteers and other miscellaneous items such as Crime Prevention Literature, Nieghborhood Watch Signs and mailing costs. The new radio equipment will be for the use of the Police Department Coordinator and his/he; volunteer force. Before the programs can become completely successful and self sufficient, the department must expand community awareness by providing literature, lectures, equipment and some other expenses such as mileage reembursement to inspire its success.
