<br /> -2- <br /> (b) Section 503 of the Southern Standard <br /> Mechanical Code, 1973 edition, is hereby <br /> amended to read as follows: <br /> Section 503- Contruction of Ducts <br /> All ducts shall be constructed of materials <br /> and construction quality as set forth for <br /> its class as outlined in Section 502. <br /> 1. Installation and/or use of duct board <br /> containing or constructed of fibrous <br /> glass material in air conditioning, <br /> heating and air plenum and return ducts <br /> is prohibited in all hospitals, medical <br /> clinics, nursing homes and restaurants. <br /> 2. Residential ducts shall be minimum of <br /> Class 2 air duct material. <br /> 3. Commercial ducts shall be minimum Class <br /> 1 air duct material but shall not <br /> exceed 250 degrees F. temperature, 2000 <br /> FPM Velocity, or 2 inches Static <br /> Pressure. <br /> 4. Industrial or Medium and High Pressure <br /> commercial ducts shall be minimum of <br /> Class 0 air duct material and shall be <br /> used on applications which exceed 250 <br /> degrees F., 2000 FPM or 2 inches SP. <br /> 5. Other ducts may be of independent <br /> construction or a part of the building <br /> structure, provided they are installed <br /> using one of the following methods; <br /> a. Duct wall construction consisting <br /> of not less than 3/4-inch cement or <br /> gypsum plaster on metal lath <br /> applied to suitable supports may be <br /> used as duct walls. <br /> b. Duct walls of masonry construction <br /> of proper strength and design. <br /> c. properly constructed and lined <br /> passages of gypsum wallboard may be <br /> used as duct walls for return air <br /> or heating ducts in which no <br /> condensation is to be encountered. <br /> All ducts mentioned herein shall <br /> comply with Section 508 where ducts <br /> pass through floors. <br /> SECTION 3.
