<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2007 173 R <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SAN MARCOS, TEXAS SUPPORTING LEGISLATIVE <br />ACTION TO CREATE A MUNICIPAL ECONOMIC <br />DEVELOPMENT FUND AVAILABLE TO CITIES FOR USE IN <br />ATTRACTING NEW BUSINESSES TO THEIR RESPECTIVE <br />COMMUNITIES. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, economic development and the provision of new jobs is essential to <br />the overall health and well being of a municipality; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State of Texas has long supported economic development <br />through both legislation and the allocation of funds to assist certain businesses; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the economic development market is extremely competitive; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under the existing system of economic development funding smaller <br />municipalities are under a competitive disadvantage; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the availability of State funds earmarked for smaller municipalities <br />would provide a more level playing field. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />PART 1. The City Council of City of San Marcos, Texas, supports legislative <br />action that would create and fund a program that would allow smaller municipalities to <br />apply for funding to assist the municipality in offering a competitive economic <br />development package to suitable, prospective businesses. <br /> <br />PART 2.
