The City of Waco, Texas has implemented an EAH program <br />and made it eligible to all city employees. <br />6.2 Public Policy Impediments <br />Impediment: Increased public awareness of fair housing rights should be <br />evaluated. <br />Issues: The City of San Marcos has enacted a local Fair Housing <br />Ordinance. However, the local law is not substantially equivalent to the <br />federal Fair Housing Act because it does not provide for local <br />enforcement. Therefore, our analysis of applicable fair housing laws <br />focused on the State of Texas Fair Housing Act. In the analysis the state <br />statues were compared to the Federal Fair Housing Act. Our Analysis <br />determined that state statue offered similar rights, remedies, and <br />enforcement to the federal law and might be construed as substantially <br />equivalent. The City of San Marcos is part of the enforcement geography <br />afforded enforcement coverage by the Fort Worth Regional HUD FHEO <br />Office. While the current system provides an acceptable process for filing <br />and investigating fair housing complaints, increased local fair housing <br />outreach, education and training would be an important step toward <br />raising local awareness and establishing more effective local Fair Housing <br />Policy. <br />Fair housing complaint information was received from the Fort Worth, <br />Texas FHEO Division of the Regional Office of the U.S. Department of <br />HUD. The data provides a breakdown of complaints filed for Hays County <br />and San Marcos from January 1, 2007 through June 30, 2012. During this <br />period, sixteen complaints were filed according to one or more of seven <br />bases, including; National Origin, Color, Religion, Familial Status, <br />rn <br />
