Regular Meeting February 6, 2007 Page 5 <br />He stated he feels that the City has lost out on several prospects. 2) <br />Margie Moore, Global Marketeering Group, provided a document regarding <br />property and payroll taxes paid and Charitable Donations. 3) Kim Moore, <br />Global Marketeering Group, provided the Council with a list of Central <br />Texas Cities' incentive programs from the Greater Austin Chamber of <br />Commerce and list of companies receiving the Freeport Exemption in <br />surrounding countries. She also provided and read a letter from the City <br />of Denton. 4) Randolph Goodman, Gary Job Corp., stated Gary Job Corp is <br />very proud of their relationship with the San Marcos Manufacturers. He <br />stated the manufacturers' contribution to Gary students, which helps with <br />students going to College. He also stated manufacturers are vital to the <br />development of the Gary Job Corp programs. He encouraged the Council to <br />support this Ordinance. 5) Ben Wayman, Charter member of San Marcos <br />Manufacture Association, stated that the Manufacturers Association has <br />helped the community. He also feels that the San Marcos Manufacture <br />Association has jumpstarted a lot of students. 6) Phyllis Hunt, President <br />of San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, read a column from the Sunday, February <br />4, 2007, San Marcos Daily Record in support of this Ordinance. 7) Tracy <br />Houston, Financial Comptroller of Goodrich, read her letter of support. <br />She stated Goodrich is one of the companies who would use this exemption. <br />She stated Goodrich is not located in San Marcos because of specific <br />customers or material sources, but because of business environment. 8) Rob <br />Leonardis, Vice President of Hunter Industries, read a letter of support <br />from South Texas Manufactures Association. He stated the preservation of <br />existing jobs and the creation of new jobs bring growth to the area <br />economy, which more than offsets the potential tax reductions. 9) Laura <br />Lucas, Human Resource Manager at CFAN, stated this Ordinance is a tool that <br />can attract and keep companies in San Marcos. She also stated having a <br />thriving manufacturing sector is essential to San Marcos. She read a <br />letter of support from the Bowie Elementary Library. 10) Bruce Tifft, <br />Goodrich General Manager, read his letter of support. He stated every <br />surrounding city offers this exemption. He stated this is a serious <br />decision and companies locate and stay where they can survive. 11) Jane <br />Santos, Goodrich Aerostructures, encouraged the Council for their support. <br />She read three letters of support from Texas Workforce, Leadership San <br />Marcos, and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Mr. <br />Guerrero thanked all of the speakers for speaking. He stated he feels that <br />the manufactures will bring education and skills to the City. He stated he <br />recently toured CFAN and spoke with several employees and found that their <br />employees are loyal and have been there for years, which San Marcos needs <br />more of. Mr. Thomaides stated he would like to see this Ordinance to be <br />tabled until the first meeting in April. He stated this would allow the <br />Staff adequate time to research an alternative to this tax. He stated this <br />would also allow the Staff time to provide the Council with a list of <br />manufacturers and what they would receive. He stated he would also like a <br />list of property tax abatements and incentive packages different <br />manufacturers have already received from the City; He stated by tabling <br />this Ordinance, the Staff provide the Council with effect tax reductions <br />would have on the City, as well as a list of all CIP projects that have <br />
