Hankins Larry Gilley Also Present: Melissa Millecam. Mayor Younger called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. The City Council canvassed the returns of the August 8, 1987. The Council Members reviewed Central Counting Station and read the results the record for each Precinct, said tabulation ing Ordinance. Special Election held the returns from the of the tabulation into attached to the follow- Mayor Younger introduced for consideration adoption of an Ordinance on emergency, the caption which was read as follows: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RE- SULTS OF THE JOINT CITY AND COUNTY SPECIAL ELECTION HELD ON AUGUST 8, 1987 FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSIDERING THE ADOPTION OF AN ADDITIONAL ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT (1/2%) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE CITY TO RE- DUCE THE PROPERTY TAX RATE, AND SAID JOINT SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD WITHIN AND WITHOUT THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF SAID CITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSIDERING THE ADOPTION OF AN ADDITIONAL ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT (1/2%) LOÇAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN THE COUNTY TO REDUCE THE PROPERTY TAX RATE, AND DECLARING AN EMER- GENCY. Ms. Kissler ~oved for adoption of the Ordinance on emergency and Mayor Younger seconded the motion. Mr. Brown moved to amend the Ordinance in the fifth paragraph beginning with "WHEREAS" to list the members present and in SECTION 3 to delete the word "rejected" to reflect the proposition was "approved" and to add the number of votes cast "For" as being 628 and "Against" as being 159, and Mr. Hernandez seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The Council then voted unanimously for adoption of the Ordinance on emergency.
