RESOLUTION NO. 2015 -72R <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS AUTHORIZED BY SECTION 418.108 OF THE TEXAS <br />GOVERNMENT CODE EXTENDING A LOCAL STATE OF DISASTER <br />IN THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS DUE TO RECENT HISTORIC <br />FLOODING. <br />RECITALS: <br />WHEREAS, President Barack Obama declared Hays County and the City of San Marcos <br />( "City") a federal disaster area on May 29, 2015 due to extreme, devastating flooding that <br />occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2015 when the Blanco River rose above 40 feet; <br />WHEREAS, the City has suffered widespread severe property damage as shown on the <br />Property Damage Assessment attached hereto, as well as personal injuries and loss of life <br />resulting from the floods; <br />WHEREAS, hundreds of City residents have been forced from their homes due to the <br />-- -- - massive ftaoding- resulting-in the - necessity- -for -temporary - shelters -- anti- -other immefliaw - <br />emergency care needs; <br />WHEREAS, due to the total destruction of hundreds of homes in the City caused by the <br />flooding, the City will experience extremely challenging long -term housing needs in the coming <br />months and years, <br />WHEREAS, the local economy has suffered tremendous losses, due to the disruption <br />caused by the flooding and recovery measures being undertaken in the City. <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The continuation of a declaration of a local state of disaster is made by the <br />San Marcos City Council this 16th day of June, 2015. <br />PART 2. The declaration shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be <br />promptly filed with the City Clerk as required by Section 418.108(c) of the Texas Disaster Act. <br />PART 3. The City of San Marcos Emergency Management Plan remains in effect. <br />PART 4. This disaster declaration will remain in effect until September 15, 2015. <br />ADOPTED on June 16, 2015. <br />
