R-1 Residential occupancies containing sleeping units where the occupants are primarily transient in nature, <br />including: <br />Boarding houses (transient) <br />Hotels (transient) <br />Motels (transient) <br />Congregate living facilities (transient) with 10 or fewer occupants are permitted to comply with the construction <br />requirements for Group R-3. <br />Congregate living facilities (transient) with 3 or fewer sleeping units that are part of a single-family dwelling <br />that is owner occupied are permitted to comply with the International Residential Code. <br />310.5.2.1 For the purpose of this section the term Lodging Houses shall have the meaning of CongreElate Living <br />Facilities (transient). <br />Section -9708 is amended as follows: <br />-748 708.4, exception 5 is deleted. <br />Section 44708.10 is added to read as follows: <br />70708.10 Fire partitions shall be installed in R-2 occupancies in roof -ceiling spaces and floor -ceiling spaces. <br />Irrespective of section 708.4, each tenant space shall be protected by no less than ane lit -hour fire resistance <br />protection extending to the underside of the floor or roof deck above. There will be no roof penetrations within <br />4 feet of either side of the fire partition. <br />Section 7098.1-10 is added to read as follows: <br />7098.Ie6_ Hire partitions. In a building or portion of a building of a mixed use B or M occupancy <br />classification, when enclosed spaces are provided for separate tenants, such spaces shall be separated by not less <br />than 1 -hour fire resistance. <br />Section 903.1 is amended by adding the following: <br />903.1.2 More restrictive section applies. Where fire sprinklers are required in other sections of this code, the <br />most restrictive requirement will apply to methods of construction, installation, or other system requirements. <br />Section 903 is amended by adding the following: <br />903.2.12.6 Other occupancy classifications. An automatic sprinkler system shall be provided throughout all <br />buildings classified as Group B or Group F-2 having a fire area exceeding 18,000 square feet. <br />903.2.13.6 Additions and Expansions. Any building constructed after April 1, 2002_ that exceeds 18,000 sq. ft. <br />or any attached construction, alteration, or addition to an existing structure of any group that causes the structure <br />to exceed 18,000 sq. ft. f€or purposes of this section, an automatic fire sprinkler system is to be installed in the <br />non -conforming or existing structure in addition to the new construction area. <br />Section 903.4 Exception 3 is deleted. <br />Sections 1507.8 and 1507.9 are deleted and replaced with the following: <br />1507.8. Wood shingles and shakes are prohibited as new or replacement roofing material, except that weu-ld <br />wood shingles and shakes as the primary roofing surface in existence on January 1, 2001, may be replaced with <br />UL listed fire retardant shingles or shakes that are approved by the fire marshal. <br />Section 3001 is amended by adding the following: <br />Page 8 <br />
