2015 -2018 Meet and Confer Agreement <br />Between the San Marcos Professional Firefighters Association and the City of San Marcos, Texas <br />ARTICLE 9 <br />PROMOTIONAL ELIGIBILITY <br />Section 1. Prerequisites <br />Each promotional candidate desiring to take a promotional examination must meet the eligibility <br />requirements under Texas Local Government Code Chapter 143 to take the examination. In order to be <br />eligible to be promoted from an existing promotional eligibility list, the candidate must also meet the <br />following required requirements of classes and points based on education and elective classes on the date <br />of appointment (date position is filled) to the following classification or rank. Required <br />classes /certifications are listed below each rank. Points are based on elective classes and education. <br />Effective 10/1/2015 (Year 1) <br />Core /Required Courses and Points by Rank: <br />• Driver /Operator — 5 Points Required <br />— TCFP Driver /Operator Certification <br />• Captain —10 Points Required (5 points from driver plus additional points) <br />— TCFP Fire Officer II Certification * <br />— TCFP Fire Instructor II Certification <br />— TCFP Intermediate Structure Fire Protection Personnel Certification <br />• Battalion Chief —13 Points Required (10 points from Captain plus additional 3 points) <br />— Pro Board or TCFP Fire Officer IV Certification * <br />— TCFP Advanced Structure Fire Protection Personnel Certification <br />• Core /Required Courses — points for required courses count toward the required total. <br />Effective 10/1/2016 (Year 2) <br />® Driver/Operator-6 Points Required <br />— TCFP Driver /Operator Certification * <br />— TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician Certification <br />• Captain —12 Points Required (6 points from driver plus additional 6 points) <br />— TCFP Fire Officer II Certification * <br />— TCFP Fire Instructor II Certification <br />— TCFP Intermediate Structure Fire Protection Personnel Certification <br />• Battalion Chief —18 Points Required (12 points from Captain plus additional 6 points) <br />— Pro Board or TCFP Fire Officer IV Certification * <br />— TCFP Advanced Structure Fire Protection Personnel Certification <br />* Core /Required Courses — points for required courses count toward the required total. <br />Page 15 <br />
