79 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, JULY 12, 1993 PRESENT: Mayor Kathy M. Mayor Morris called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m. Mayor Morris introduced the citizen Comment Period. R.G. Phillips stated that as the city deals with the city funds for the council to be aware that some in south San Marcos are not so fortunate as some members of the city Council. Mr. Phillips stated that people of Hays County are requesting more assistance from social service agencies. Mr. Phillips stated his opinion regarding the work of the Charter Review commission last year and the destruction of the referendum ordinance which he feels is a reasonable ordinance. Jane Hughson stated that she 'would like to thank the council for giving the time to allow the citizens to speak at the beginning of the meeting. Ms. Hughson stated that she is opposed to single-member districts in general although there are some reasons for it because it would be easier and cheaper to run for office but she is concerned about the disadvantages because she would hate to see this Councilor whoever is elected in the future to give in as to what we have seen other governmental bodies done. Ms. Hughson stated that her concern is that there are not enough council seats to give every different kind of person a seat. Ms. Hughson stated that if the Council is going to do it she suggests that the Council consider having three of the six seats to women. Mr. Bob Sappington of willow Creek spoke regarding the location of the two new schools being built on Hunter Road. Mr. Sappington stated that he had noticed in the Sunday paper that the School I Board would be closing on the property on the 19th. Mr. Sappington stated that a number of substantial questions had been asked at the ! previous meeting and no one had answers. Mr. sappington stated he would like to assure himself that even though the School Board is going to buy the property that the city will hold them to zoning and paving requirements that they have to do to build on the property, because he is not sure the School Board has received the message yet. Mayor Morris stated that nothing had changed. * Mr. Moore not present at this meeting.
