John Thomaides asked if any other Cities in the surrounding areas have 2 a.m. closing. Pete
responded that Bexar County, Guadalupe County, Schertz and Selma have extended hours.
There are none east or west of San Marcos.
John Thomaides asked if the extended hours would attract last call drinkers. Pete responded
yes, that in the past other bars which stayed opened until 2:00 had more towards the close and
probably San Marcos would get an influx from surrounding communities i.e.: Wimberley,
Uhland, New Braunfels.
Chris Jones asked Chief Williams about the Police officers working a 12 hour shift. Chief and
the officers are in favor for this. Chris Jones asked for more information regarding 12 hour shift
and asked for it to be put on the next task force agenda. Rick Menchaca directed Chief
Williams to put a memo together for pros of a 12 hour shift and post on Google.
Chuck Swallow discussed CUP's. Chuck will build a data base to include the number of CUP's
in the City. Discussion was held on the limit of CUP's in the downtown area. Also discussed
how to resolve restaurants with CUP conditions related to downtown and what effect extended
hours could have on Food and Alcohol Sales Ratios.
Next meeting will be Friday April 10 at 11:30 a.m.
