Page Three:
*SEE ATTACHMENT D
6. TEEN COURT
Teen Court has been established in communities to add a
new concept of diversion and accountability to our
Page Three:
Juvenile Justice system. It is directed toward juvenile
misdemeanor offenders.
The proj ect will eventually involve the creation of a
teen (peer) jury system which will bring together
juvenile offenders, their peers and community agencies
to determine logical and natural consequences for the
offenses.
The purpose of the process is to get young people to take
responsibility for their actions, to provide restitution
to victims and the community and to give the community
an active role in solving juvenile crime.
An information "packet" put together by the City of Kyle
has been added for further details and information.
*SEE ATTACHMENT E
B. GOAL: THE COMMISSION REQUESTS THE SUPPORT OF THE CITY
COUNCIL IN CREATING AN ACTIVITY CENTER AND MORE
ACTIVITIES FOR ALL YOUTH. THE COMMISSION WOULD LIKE
TO SEE PROGRAMS STARTED THAT ARE FOR THE YOUTH AND
THAT CAN ALSO BE RUN BY THE YOUTH.
1. EXPANSION OF PARKS AND RECREATION
The Commission would like the City to expand the Parks
and Recreation department to include intramurals for
youths 18 and under. Examples would be to develop,
organize and operate slow-pitch softball, volleyball,
basketball, and drama/language arts programs. The
Commission would like to focus on the age group between
12 and 17 years of age. We would like to see facilities
at SWT and the SMICSD opened up to accommodate programs
for this age group.
Police Department. 401 East Hopkins.
