Section 6.03 of the city charter and to be worded as follows (clarifying language is underlined): "Sec. 12. 11. Amending the Charter. Amendments to this charter may be framed and submitted to the voters of the city in the manner provided by state law and in compliance with the provisions of this charter pertaining to the holding of elections, including the requirements in Section 6.03 for verification of signatures on any petition paper that have been continuously in effect since the adoption of the original city charter on February 24, 1967." FOR 1566 AGAINST 1270 SECTION 4. That Scott Gregson received a majority of the votes and is elected to serve as City Council Member Place 5. SECTION 5. That Melissa Derrick received a majority of votes and is elected to serve as City Council Member Place 6. SECTION 6. Proposition 1, relating to fluoridation of the San Marcos municipal water supply, is hereby adopted and the text thereof shall be added to the San Marcos City Charter as a new section to be numbered and titled as follows: "Section 11.12. Fluoridation of Municipal Water Supply." SECTION 7. Proposition 2 is hereby adopted to add a cross-reference in Section 12.11 to the requirements in Section 6.03 for verification of signatures on any petition paper in order to make it clear that signatures on petitions to place charter amendments on the ballot are subject to the verification requirements that have been in place at all times since the original city charter was adopted on February 24, 1967. SECTION 8. The importance of this ordinance creates an emergency and an imperative public necessity, and the provisions of the charter requiring that ordinances be presented at two separate meetings are hereby waived. This ordinance will take effect immediately upon its adoption on only one reading. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this the 12'h day of November 2015. 3
