• RESOLUTION NO. 2009- 97R <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SAN MARCOS, TEXAS ADOPTING A POLICY FOR THE <br />OFFERING OF INVOCATIONS AT CITY COUNCIL <br />MEETINGS; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />RECITALS: <br />1. Section 2.042 of the San Marcos City Code was amended on April 17, 2007 to provide <br />for an invocation in the order of business of regular meetings of the City Council. <br />2. The City Council's legislative intent in adopting this policy is to comply with the <br />constitutional standards for legislative prayer set forth in the case of Marsh v. Chambers, 463 <br />U.S. 783 (1983). <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The San Marcos City Council Invocation Policy attached hereto as Exhibit <br />"A" is hereby adopted and shall be implemented by the City Clerk in making arrangements for <br />the offering of invocations at regular meetings of the San Marcos City Council. <br />PART 2.
