RESOLUTION 2018-15R <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br /> TEXAS FINDING A POLICE VEHICLE TO BE SURPLUS AND OF NO <br /> FURTHER VALUE TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; AUTHORIZING THE <br /> CITY TO DONATE THE POLICE VEHICLE TO SAVING A HERO'S PLACE, <br /> INC.; FINDING THAT SUCH CONVEYANCE SERVES THE PUBLIC PURPOSE <br /> OF HONORING LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF <br /> DUTY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO <br /> EXECUTE A DONATION AGREEMENT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE <br /> DATE. <br /> RECITALS: <br /> 1. The City's Police Department possesses a police vehicle that has reached the end of <br /> its useful life for law enforcement purposes and is therefore declared surplus. <br /> 2. Saving a Hero's Place, Inc. is a tax-exempt non-profit organization whose mission it is <br /> to build wood honor chairs to be placed in roll call or briefing rooms of police departments that <br /> have lost one of their members in the line of duty to remind the shift mates that the officer is <br /> always with them as they embark on their daily journey to protect their communities. <br /> 3. The public purpose of Saving a Hero's Place, Inc.'s mission includes raising public <br /> awareness of the sacrifices made by members of law enforcement and their families and the <br /> magnitude of the loss to law enforcement when one of their members is killed in the line of duty. <br /> 4. Saving a Hero's Place, Inc. is currently building a custom honor chair that will be on <br /> display at the San Marcos Police Department in memory of Officer Ken Copeland who was <br /> tragically killed in the line of duty serving the citizens of San Marcos on December 4,2017. <br /> 5. Saving a Hero's Place, Inc. does not have a vehicle to transport the honor chairs it <br /> donates to law enforcement agencies across the nation and will greatly benefit from the donation <br /> of the police vehicle by the City of San Marcos. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br /> TEXAS: <br /> PART 1. The City Council finds and determines that a police vehicle, no longer in use <br /> by the City Police Department, is surplus and of no value to the City of San Marcos. <br /> PART 2. The City is authorized to donate this police vehicle to Save a Hero's Chair, <br /> Inc. <br /> r I <br />
