Tornadoes <br />Tornadoes: Description <br />According to the 2013 State of Texas Hazard Mitigation Plan Update, a tornado is <br />defined as a rapidly rotating vortex or funnel of air extending ground-ward from a <br />cumulonimbus cloud. <br />Tornadoes: Extent Scale <br />The Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF-scale) is a set of wind estimates based on damage used to measure a <br />tornadoes magnitude. The scale uses three-second gusts estimated at the point of damage based on 8 <br />damage levels to 28 damage indicators.
