Expansive Soils <br />Expansive Soils: Description <br />According to the 2013 State of Texas Hazard Mitigation Plan Update, expansive <br />soils are defined as soils and soft rock that tend to swell or shrink due to changes in <br />moisture content. <br />Expansive Soils: Extent Scale <br />Figure 2.3 illustrates the location of the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Expansive Soils Regions <br />for Hays County. This dataset can be used to determine the extent of an area’s underlying soil’s swelling <br />potential.
