Call To Order <br /> With a quorum present, the special meeting of the San Marcos City Council <br /> was called to order by Mayor Thomaides at 5:28 p.m. Wednesday,June 27, <br /> 2018 in Room 3 of the San Marcos Activity Center,501 E. Hopkins, San <br /> Marcos, Texas 78666. <br /> II. Roll Call <br /> Council Member Hughson was absent. <br /> Present: 6- Mayor Pro Tern Lisa Prewitt,Council Member Saul Gonzales, Deputy Mayor Pro <br /> Tern Scott Gregson, Council Member Melissa Derrick, Mayor John Thomaides and <br /> Council Member Ed Mihalkanin <br /> Absent: 1 - Council Member Jane Hughson <br /> Consider approval of Resolution 2018-120R, supporting the reversal of the Department <br /> of Homeland Security's Family Separation Policies; and providing an effective date. <br /> Main Motion: A motion was made by Mayor Pro Tern Prewitt,seconded by <br /> Council Member Derrick, to approve Resolution 2018-120R. <br /> Motion to Amend: A motion was made by Mayor Pro Tem Prewitt, seconded <br /> by Deputy Mayor Pro Tern Gregson, to amend Resolution 2018-120R by <br /> Inserting the following as a new Part 3, "The City of San Marcos also urges <br /> Congress to take action immediately to require the Department of Justice and <br /> the Department of Homeland Security to reunite separated children with their <br /> families without imposing a requirement that parents abandon their claims for <br /> asylum in the United States.",and inserting a new Part 4, "This Resolution <br /> shall be in full force and effect immediately from and after its passage." The <br /> motion carried by the following vote: <br /> For: 6- Mayor Pro Tern Prewitt, Council Member Gonzales, Deputy Mayor Pro Tern <br /> Gregson, Council Member Derrick, Mayor Thomaides and Council Member <br /> Mihalkanin <br /> Against: 0 <br /> Absent: 1 - Council Member Hughson <br /> City of San Marcos Page 1 <br />
