(1) Buddy Martin
representing the South Hays County Emergency Services District #3,
stated he appreciated the fire department assisting them to provide
fire protection services to the District. (2) Mary Mendoza of the
Neighborhood Alliance expressed concern regarding the discussion
again being agendized regarding a parkway extension on Gravel
Street. She has talked with the Gravel Street neighbors, and they
do not want anyone going to their homes regarding relocation of the
residents. (3) Maria Elena Gonzales representing Barrios Unidos
NABV stated there are 80 family members with established roots and
homes on Gravel Street. This area is like family to her, as they
have known each other a long time. Ms. Gonzales stated the Bond
Committee has been insensitive towards the Gravel Street residents
in not holding a public hearing to know what they want. Also she
stated two long time residents have recently died, and the timing of
this matter is insensitive. (4) Mary Lou Salazar was not present
when called upon to speak. (5) Ray Stone was present to discuss the
possibility of a cross-town expressway at Riverside. He stated
there are no sidewalks, and it would not be a good area to increase
traffic through this neighborhood. He also stated it would be
disastrous to connect Riverside with the other side of IH35 and
hopes the Council is not considering going forward with that. (6)
John Cooper stated he encourages the Council to vote for the
Commuter Rail on this agenda. (7) John McBride stated it is
difficult for citizens to know what has been agendized and wants the
Council Meetings on public access television. (8) Anna Mendoza
spoke on behalf of Mrs. Salazar who stated they live on Riverside
and are opposed to more traffic being routed through their
neighborhood. This would change the neighborhood, and she does not
think any of the neighbors want this to happen.
Mayor Moore introduced for consideration approval of an appointment
to the Cemetery Commission. The Council had no names at this
meeting, and it will be rescheduled.
Mayor Moore introduced for consideration approval of an appointment
to the Ethics Review Commission.
