Safe sidewalk surfaces are firm, stable, and slip -resistant. <br />Concrete <br />Best for use in urban, suburban and <br />areas with heavy pedestrian use, <br />concrete is expensive to install, but <br />has a longer life and requires less <br />maintenance than other materials. <br />Asphalt <br />Less expensive than concrete, asphalt is <br />an appropriate choice for less traversed <br />walkways if they are properly maintained <br />and accessible. <br />Brick Pavers <br />Pavers offer a different aesthetic that <br />may appeal in some locations. Pavers <br />should be used carefully, as they may <br />shift or settle, and fall out of <br />ADA -compliance. <br />
