Call To Order With a quorum present,the special meeting of the San Marcos City Council was called to order by Mayor Hughson at 5:15 p.m. Thursday,December 20, 2018 in the City Hall Conference Room,630 E. Hopkins, San Marcos,Texas 78666. II. Roll Call Present: 6- Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Prewitl,Council Member Saul Gonzales, Council Member Melissa Derrick, Mayor Jane Hughson,Council Member Joca Marquez and Council Member Mark Rockeymoore Absent: 2- Deputy Mayor Pro Tern Scott Gregson and Council Member Ed Mihalkanin 1. Resolution authorizing the purchase of 4.02 acres of land adjacent to the City of Marcos cemetery in the amount of$2,250,000 Bert Lumbreras, City Manager provided an update and short presentation on the purchase that would expand our Cemetery. The remaining space in the cemetery allows for an additional 800 plots,the City currently averages about 80 plot sales per year, and the remaining life is approximately 10 more years. City staff has explored expansion options and in order to expand within city limits, it must occur adjacent to an existing cemetery. If not,expansion can only occur in the Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ). Plot fee for residents is$1550 and $1900 for non-residents. The purchase of this property would give the City Cemetery approximately 1,575 to 2,275 additional plots and we could extend the life of the Cemetery life by an additional 25-30 years. The estimated revenue is$2.9M to S3.7M. The purchase will be funded by the Cemetery Perpetual Fund in the amount of $1,071,000 and the FY2019 Capital Improvements Project Fund in the amount of$1,200,000.
