RESOLUTION 2019-55R <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING HAYS COUNTY'S SUBMISSION OF <br />AN APPLICATION TO THE TEXAS SECRETARY OF STATE TO <br />PARTICIPATE IN A PROGRAM TO USE COUNTYWIDE POLLING <br />PLACES FOR ELECTIONS, ALSO KNOWN AS VOTE CENTERS, AS AN <br />ALTERNATIVE TO HAVING A POLLING PLACE LOCATED IN EACH <br />COUNTY ELECTION PRECINCT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. <br />RECITALS: <br />1. Pursuant to Election Code §43.007 et. seq., Texas counties may submit an <br />application to the Texas Secretary of State to participate in a program to use countywide polling <br />places for elections as an alternative to having a polling place located in each county election <br />precinct. <br />2. The Hays County Commissioners Court and the Hays County Elections <br />Administrator will be holding a public meeting on April 23, 2019, and two additional public <br />meetings will be held to seek citizen comments regarding the County's participation in the <br />program. <br />3. A Polling Place Study Committee will be assembled by the Hays County <br />Elections Administrator, consisting of stakeholders from local jurisdictions and representatives <br />from local minority organizations and election resource organizations to identify potential <br />polling locations to be used. <br />4. The Hays County Commissioners Court found it to be in the best interest of the <br />citizens of Hays County to apply for inclusion in the countywide polling place program of the <br />Secretary of State, on February 26, 2019. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />Part 1. The City Council hereby supports Hay's County's submission of an Application <br />for Participation in the Secretary of State's Countywide Polling Place Program as provided in <br />Election Code §43.007 et. seq. <br />Part 2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage. <br />ADOPTED on this 19th day of March 2019. <br />
