Future Population Projections <br />Between 2012-2014, the City of San Marcos was ranked <br />as the #1 fastest growing city in the U.S. Along with this <br />rapid growth came an increased interest in residential <br />and commercial property development. It also spurred <br />a renewed focus on improving the character and <br />tourism potential of the San Marcos region. <br />According to projections in the San Marcos <br />will reach 66,909 people by 2020 and 79,819 people <br />by 2030. By 2040, the City should have a population of <br />Based on this potential for such continued rapid <br />growth, it is important that the City continue to monitor <br />the evolving demands of parks, recreation, and open <br />space needs. <br />Educational Attainment <br />Approximately 32 percent of San Marcos residents hold <br />a bachelor’s degree or higher, which is slightly higher <br />than the national average (30%).
