Edwards Aquifer Authority
Groundwater Conservation Grant Program
Application for Grant Request
•
APPLICANT INFORMATION
Permit Holder Name: City of San Marcos Permit Number: P102-313
Contact Person: Jan Klein Phone Number: 512.393.8310 Fax Number: 512.396.2683
Mailing Address: 630 East Hopkins, San Marcos, TX 78666
Email: Iklein@sanmarcostx.gov
Project Title: Commercial Plumbing Fixture Replacement Program
PROJECT/PROGRAM INFORMATION
Expected start date: January 2010 Expected completion date: September 2010
Description of proposed project: The City of San Marcos has offered a plumbing replacement
program for residential customers since 1995. This program has previously been available only
to single and multi-family residential water customers, and has replaced inefficient toilets,
showerheads and faucet aerators with efficient models. Through this proposal, the program
would be extended to commercial water customers with hotels/motels being the target group.
What is the life expectancy of the proposed conservation project? 10 years minimum.
What is the expected annual savings of Edwards Aquifer Groundwater? 1,237,350 gallons per
year.
Explanation of calculated annual savings: Total savings estimated at 4,949,400 gallons per year
(see attached cost/savings analysis). City of San Marcos obtains approximately 25% of its water
• supply from the Edwards Aquifer so total savings were divided by 4 to obtain Edwards Aquifer
savings.
Explanation of plan to monitor results to ensure continued savings: The City of San Marcos will
use billing records to monitor water usage for participating businesses. Usage data will be
evaluated at least quarterly to assure continued water savings. Anomalies in usage data will be
reported to management staff.
EXPENSES AND FUNDING INFORMATION
List of expected project expenditures:
Expenditure Cost ($)
Rebate for 400 EPA Watersense high-eff iciency toilets (400 at $100 each). $40,000.00
Purchase of Niagara low-flow showerheads (400 at $4.50 each). $1,800.00
Purchase of Niagara low-flow faucet aerators (400 at $0.55 each). $220.00
Marketing and advertising (COSM employee staff time) $0
Installation (responsibility of commercial participant) $0
Total estimated cost of project: $42,02
0
What is the amount requested from EAA? 21010
•
Page 1
