RECOMMENDATION RESOLUTION <br />Arts Commissi <br />Recommendation Number: (2020-0 1 RR): Allocating Permanent Art Funds to 2020 Arts and <br />Cultural Grants <br />WHEREAS, the Arts and Cultural Grant program is an Arts Commission initiative that supports <br />deserving programs and artists selected by the Commission through a rigorous application and <br />selection process each year; and <br />WHEREAS, the Arts and Cultural Grant program is funded by a combination of Hotel <br />Occupancy Tax (HOT) collections and General Fund allocations; and <br />WHEREAS, the COVID- 19 pandemic has negatively and drastically impacted HOT collections <br />throughout the State, including a projected loss of more than 50% of budgeted revenue in San <br />Marcos, and our community faces a long economic recovery; and <br />WHEREAS; the San Marcos arts community has borne the brunt of the pandemic's economic <br />effects, yet is proving its determination and resilience in the face of this unprecedented crisis; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Marcos has a cumulative balance of $347,716 available in its <br />Permanent Art Fund, which receives annual allocations from the City's HOT collections; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Arts Commission encourages the San Marcos <br />City Council to allocate $100,000 on a one-time basis from the Permanent Art Fund to <br />supplement the FY 2020-2021 Arts and Cultural Grant program during this crisis. <br />Date of Approval: June 3, 2020 Record of the vote: 5-0 in favor <br />Attest: <br />Trey Hatt, Arts Coordinator <br />
