City Council Meeting Minutes January 5, 2021 <br />is the best organized for a member of the public to obtain useful information. <br />Mr. Stiles expressed concern with the vaccine distribution throughout the city <br />and county. Mr. Stiles wants to ensure the city is quickly prepared to open <br />large sites for administering the vaccine in conjunction with the county. Mr. <br />Stiles mentioned the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has checklists and <br />guidance for setting up these larger scale locations, which in San Marcos could <br />be in the High School, University and Outlet Mall parking lots. Mr. Stiles <br />asked if the city and county started utilizing those resources and have plans in <br />place. <br />PRESENTATIONS <br />1. Receive status reports and updates on response to COVID-19 pandemic; hold council <br />discussion, and provide direction to Staff. <br />Chase Stapp, Director of Public Safety, provided the presentation regarding <br />COVID-19. <br />Known Cases — as of January 4, 2021 <br />• Approx. 1.6m total cases (306k active) cases in Texas with 27,969 <br />fatalities <br />*source: Texas Department of State Health Services <br />• 10,951 total cases in Hays County (1,737 active and 9,088 recovered) with 133 <br />fatalities <br />• 565 cases have required hospitalization, 39 current <br />• 4,356 total cases in San Marcos (170 active and 3,754 recovered) with 53 <br />fatalities <br />*source: Hays County Health Department <br />• 1,317 total cases at TX State (10 active) <br />• 1,209 students, 108 faculty/staff <br />*source: Texas State University Student Health Services <br />Mr. Stapp provided additional information and stated in Texas there was <br />33,000 more active cases from mid-December and 4,058 more fatalities. In <br />Hays County, had 700 more active cases than and ??? fatalities from <br />mid-December. In San Marcos, 379 more active cases with 12 fatalities than <br />mid-December. <br />Mr. Stapp stated 15 employees have tested positive. Mr. Stapp stated the <br />amount in hospital capacity in region, Trauma Service Area (TSA) O includes <br />Austin, Hays and Williamson Counties and surrounding areas. Mr. Stapp <br />stated the wording in the Governor's Order GA32, if any TSA O gets greater <br />than 15% stays for 7 days greater restrictions for business operating in 75% <br />City of San Marcos Page 2 <br />
