San Marcos Police Officer Claudia Cormier was injured in the line of duty on May <br />18, 2019. <br />2. Section 143.073, Subsection (a) of the Texas Local Government Code provides that <br />a police officer or fire fighter shall be provided a leave of absence for at least one <br />year if needed to recover from a line of duty injury. <br />3. Section 143.073, Subsection (b) of the Texas Local Government Code provides that <br />a municipality's governing body may extend the line of duty injury leave at full or <br />reduced pay at the end of the initial one-year period. <br />4. Officer Cormier was placed on line of duty injury leave on May 18, 2019. <br />5. Surgical procedures necessary for Officer Cormier's recovery from her injuries <br />were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. <br />6. The City Council finds that extension of Officer Cormier's injury leave is necessary <br />to allow her to recover from the injuries she sustained in the line of duty. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The extension of San Marcos Police Officer Claudia Cormier's line of duty <br />injury leave, at full pay, from May 18, 2020 to May 18, 2021 is hereby ratified. <br />PART 2.
