ORDINANCE NO. 2021 - 51 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS AMENDING, CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 5 (CODE OF <br />ETHICS) OF THE SAN MARCOS CITY CODE BY ADDING A NEW <br />SECTION 2.422.1; REQUIRING MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />AND APPOINTED MEMBERS OF CITY BOARDS, COMMISSIONS, AND <br />COMMITTEES TO ATTEND ETHICS TRAINING DURING THE FIRST <br />THIRTY (30) DAYS OF THEIR INITIAL TERM OF OFFICE; AND <br />DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />SECTION 1. Chapter 2, Article 5, Division 1 of the San Marcos City Code is hereby <br />amended to add a new Section 2.422.1 to read as follows: <br />Sec. 2.422.1. — Ethics Training Required <br />All members of the city council and appointive members of city boards, commissions, or <br />committees established on a permanent basis by ordinance, the city charter, or state law, shall <br />attend training regarding the San Marcos Code of Ethics and state conflict of interest laws during <br />the first thirty (30) days of their initial term of office. Ethics training provided by the San Marcos <br />City Attorney's Office meets the requirements of this section. <br />SECTION 2. If any word, phrase, clause, sentence, or paragraph of this ordinance is held <br />to be unconstitutional or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the other provisions of this <br />ordinance will continue in force if they can be given effect without the invalid portion. <br />SECTION 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances or resolutions in conflict with this <br />ordinance are repealed. <br />SECTION 4.
