City Council Meeting Minutes July 6, 2021 <br />that will be lifted on September 1st. In-person meetings will resume per <br />direction from the Attorney General's Office. <br />Mayor Hughson stated that plans are underway for Council to be in person for <br />the August 3rd council meeting. <br />Council members will be spread out and staff will videoconference during <br />meetings as much as possible. The seats in the Council Chambers will be <br />sectioned off to accommodate distancing and chairs will be placed in the lobby <br />for in-person attendance. Ms. Cook asked for council direction regarding the <br />12 pm signup deadline for citizen comment. Council consensus is to allow this <br />signup deadline for citizen comment. <br />44. Hold discussion regarding the need for a market study to include occupancy rates for all <br />housing that markets to students, both student purpose build housing and traditional <br />student apartments, and provide direction to the City Manager <br />Mayor Pro Tem Derrick stated an agency did a study on student housing and <br />data showed that it is 98% full. She stated the agency is counting student <br />housing with a bathroom in every bedroom and not counting other apartments <br />that college students live. Ms. Derrick stated the agency is not capturing <br />accurate data. She mentioned that staff from Texas State University believes <br />there is over building of apartments. She would like a study to receive data on <br />the market that houses students. <br />Council held discussion and provided direction for staff to begin working on a <br />student housing study. <br />VI. Adjournment. <br />A motion was made by Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Scott, seconded by Mayor <br />Hughson, to adjourn the regular meeting of the City Council on Wednesday, <br />July 7, 2021 at 12:44 a.m. The motion carried by the following vote: <br />For: 7 - Mayor Pro Tem Derrick, Mayor Hughson, Council Member Baker, Council Member <br />Gonzales, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Scott, Council Member Garza and Council <br />Member Gleason <br />Against: 0 <br />T my K.,,Cok, Interim City Clerk ane Hughson, Mayor <br />City of San Marcos Page 25 <br />
