TEXT AMENDMENT — FOR PROP "A" <br />SECTION 1.03 OF THE CITY CHARTER WOULD BE AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: <br />Sec. 1.03. - Statement of goals. <br />The goals of the city government are to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of the city's residents, <br />provide for a high quality of life including, but not limited to, neighborhood integrity, a clean and abundant <br />water supply, a cost-efficient electricity supply, efficient police and fire departments, educational <br />opportunities, effective road and transportation systems, a healthy business environment, well maintained <br />parkland and recreational opportunities, foster intergovernmental liaison and communication, encourage <br />responsible citizenship, promote sound community and economic development, promote high quality <br />affordable housing, conserve and protect the city's natural resources and environment and, in particular the <br />San Marcos River, its springs, aquifer, and tributaries. <br />TEXT AMENDMENT — FOR PROP `B" <br />SECTION 3.01 OF THE CITY CHARTER WOULD BE AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS: <br />Sec. 3.01. — Number, Selection and term. <br />(a) The legislative and governing body of the city shall consist of seven council members and <br />shall be known as the "City Council of San Marcos". <br />(b) The members of the city council shall be elected from the city at large, and each council <br />member shall be elected to occupy a place on the council, such places being numbered and <br />designated 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and mayor. <br />(c) Each council member for places 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 shall hold office for a period of three <br />years, staggered so that two members shall be elected to a regular term each year.
