D. Artistic Strength of San Marcos <br />Keen Independent asked interviewees about San Marcos’ artistic strengths. <br />Vibrancy and community. Many interviewees commented on the City’s accepting and diverse <br />communities. <br /> “There doesn’t seem to be a lot of pigeonholing …. A lot of acceptance and love of <br />alternative art, street art, performance art.” <br />Anytime we have a college town, it makes the city vibrant. <br />Eclectic community and quality art. <br /> Not a lot of gatekeeping. Easy to become known. “If you want to make something happen <br />it’s pretty easy to do so.” <br /> Liberal mindset. It’s okay to be a bit weird and that’s why we love it. <br /> The university has its strengths. It’s ok to be weird here. More liberal-leaning demographic <br />for Texas. The open-mindedness of having an educated populous. <br /> Vibrancy of the community. Recent period of growth that has brought in many people from <br />different cultures. Diversity of people. <br /> A lot of young people, but also a great mix of older influential people that tell a rich history <br />of art. <br /> Diversity is embraced a lot. <br />Murals. A few interviewees emphasized the murals as a particular strength. <br /> Murals and mini murals all around town. <br /> I think about the mural arts program. <br /> Mural arts program, traffic box program. <br /> Mural projects — Art woven into the community. <br /> Sponsored murals. <br /> Visual art murals. <br />Other input.Interviewees provided additional comments and feedback in regards to San Marcos’ <br />artistic strength. <br /> The “DIY” scene … people make things out of what is here. <br /> The \[mermaid\] festival is the biggest in \[San Marcos\]. Morning glories is a big deal. <br /> Monthly arts market on courthouse lawn. <br /> Outdoor music events — not necessarily strength but it exists. <br /> Performing arts center at the university. <br /> The local people who really enjoy all these arts and culture events.
