RESOLUTION NO. 2022-214R <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br /> MARCOS, TEXAS AUTHORIZING THE NAMING OF THE ALLEY <br /> THAT RUNS BETWEEN THE EAST 100 BLOCK OF SAN ANTONIO <br /> STREET AND EAST MARTIN LUTHER KING DRIVE, DIRECTLY <br /> ACROSS FROM THE HAYS COUNTY HISTORIC COURTHOUSE <br /> "BOYHOOD ALLEY"; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> WHEREAS, the City of San Marcos is proud to have served as a location for over 110 <br /> productions including commercials, television, and film such as American Crime, Friday Night <br /> Lights, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The New Guy, The Ringer, The Lying Game, Lost in the <br /> Sun, The War at Home, A Small Town in Texas, Missing in Brooks County, Tiramisu for Two, <br /> A Texas Funeral, The Getaway, Piranha, The Faculty, The Tree of Life, Courage Under Fire, <br /> Idiocracy, Leadbelly, Flesh and Bone, No Loss No Gain, When We Burn Out, Little Boy Blue, <br /> D.O.A., Bernie, and Boyhood; and <br /> WHEREAS, the legendary director Richard Linklater shot part of his epic film, <br /> Boyhood, in downtown San Marcos, including on the presently unnamed alley that runs between <br /> San Antonio Street and MLK Drive, directly across from the Hays County Historic Courthouse; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, San Marcos is a certified Film Friendly City with the Texas Film <br /> Commission since August 18, 2015; and <br /> WHEREAS, a 2016 report prepared by the Greater San Marcos Partnership and the City <br /> of San Marcos, titled Economic Impact of the Moving Image Industries in Caldwell & Hays <br /> Counties, found that in just the preceding eight years the total economic activity attributable to <br /> motion picture, film and TV productions in the bi-county area was $26.7 million, supporting 185 <br /> jobs and generating approximately$360,975 in general fund tax revenue; and <br /> WHEREAS, the non-profit film society San Marcos Cinema Club, since 2016, has <br /> organized multiple events that highlight the filmmaking talents of local residents, including <br /> Music Flicks in the `666, the 72-hour Film Race and the annual Lost River Film Fest, which will <br /> return for a sixth year to San Marcos from October 20-23, 2022; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Opening Night of this year's Lost River Film Fest will feature <br /> Everybody Wants Some, another film shot in San Marcos by director Richard Linklater,who will <br /> be invited to attend the screening in person; and <br /> WHEREAS, Boyhood earned dozens of accolades, including top prizes from the New <br /> York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the Chicago Film Critics <br />
