Allen Parkway • San Marcos, Texas 78666 www.SanMarcosTexas.com October 18, 2022 Mayor Hughson and Members of the City Council: The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce would like to extend our support for the reallocation of $200,000 in General Funds—previously Coronavirus Relief Funds—to Splash Coworking and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area. In April 2021, the Chamber was awarded the funds by City Council to provide Economic Development for the small businesses of San Marcos. However, due to various other commitments, it was decided that the Chamber's preference would be to have other entities run programs with this funding, with the Chamber in a supporting role if needed. In January, 2022, Chamber staff recruited Workforce Solutions and Splash Coworking to provide two separate programs that benefit working adults and small businesses: Childcare gap payments and QuickBooks training. The previous President and CEO,Jason Mock, encouraged both Splash and Workforce Solutions to reach out directly to City staff in creating the programs. Since his departure, the program development continued with City staff, finalizing the ideas into detailed proposals ready to be executed if approved by City Council. The chamber fully supports both Splash Coworking and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area in continuing a partnership with the City of San Marcos and receiving the funds originally allocated to our organization. We believe the programs will benefit local businesses while fitting our mission to improve the economic prosperity and quality of life of our members through leadership, education, and business advocacy.
