By integrating Medicated Assistant Treatment (MAT),
prevention education, and harm reduction approaches, the initiative seeks to leverage evidence-
based practices to mitigate the impacts of opioid misuse. The core objective is to foster a healthier,
safer community through targeted interventions and educational programs.
Beneficiaries
The primary beneficiaries of this program will be members of the San Marcos community,
encompassing individuals directly or indirectly affected by opioid misuse or addiction.
Timeline: Program Services April 2024 to April 2025, with the possibility of extension based on
additional fund allocations.
Budget and Staffing: Contract Nurse Practitioner to administer MAT induction assessments,
follow-up maintenance and medication orders. The budget includes this Contract Nurse
Practitioner position to monitor and document on clients served for MAT services. An additional
part-time team member up to 28 hours per week, 4 days a week, will be hired to document and
support the full scope of services for this overall program at $25.00 an hour. Other expenses for
this program would include the training, travel, supplies, occupancy costs, and indirect overhead.
The program would be managed by the Director of Ancillary Services.
Activities and Performance Measures
1. Monitoring the number of residents benefiting from Medication-Assisted Treatment
(MAT): Facilitate opportunities for uninsured or those without MAT coverage in San Marcos to receive
necessary treatment. Measure the quarterly increase or decrease in residents enrolled in MAT programs,
tracking progress over a monthly time period to evaluate the program's expansion or contraction.
2. Tracking the engagement of healthcare providers in opioid prescription training: Annually quantify
the number of healthcare providers who complete opioid prescription training, assessing year-over-year
trends to gauge increased provider engagement and training uptake; this can be tracked via the sign-in and
enrollment forms. Educate local healthcare providers on safe and best practices for Opioid prescribing to
ensure community-wide health safety standards.
3. Reporting on the reach and impact of Naloxone training sessions: Document the number of training
sessions conducted quarterly and the total number of participants, alongside pre-and post-assessment scores
to evaluate knowledge gained and the program's immediate impact. Scores can be subjected to a survey
provided. Collaborate with local government entities, local business, and other local entities to provide
Naloxone training and/or distribute Narcan at various community events.
