WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of people will observe World Migratory Bird Day, <br /> gathering in town squares, community centers, schools, parks, nature centers, and wildlife <br /> refuges to learn about birds,take action to conserve them, and simply to have fun; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Convention and Visitors Bureau Board has recommended that the City <br /> Council adopt a resolution designating World Migratory Bird Days each year for observance in <br /> the City, and supporting an application by the City to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department <br /> and Audubon Texas for certification in the"Bird City Texas" program. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> PART 1. The City Council designates the second Saturday each May and the second <br /> Saturday each October for observance as World Migratory Bird Days. These observances will <br /> not be limited to a single day. In connection with these observances, the City will provide public <br /> information about bird conservation and will call upon the people of San Marcos to protect and <br /> conserve birds and their habitats in our community. <br /> PART 2. The City Council hereby supports an application by the City to the Texas Parks <br /> and Wildlife Department and Audubon Texas to certify San Marcos in the "Bird City Texas" <br /> program, which will continue to enhance the City's reputation for leadership in protecting its <br /> natural environment, including bird habitats, will recognize the interests of many citizens in bird <br /> conservation, and will promote the City as a destination for binding-related tourism. <br /> PART 3.
