In the early 1990s,the Tanger Outlet Mall and San Marcos Factory Outlet Mall (now <br /> Prime Outlets) became another major draw for tourism. Enrollment at Texas State University now exceeds <br /> 38,000 students. <br /> The City of San Marcos is situated in a unique natural setting. The Blackland Prairie lies to the east and <br /> the Edwards Plateau (commonly known as the Texas Hill Country)to the west. The San Marcos River <br /> originating from the San Marcos Springs runs through the city and joins with the Blanco River southeast <br /> of the city.
