RESOLUTION 2009-173R <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, APPROVING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT <br />APPLICATION FOR A FEMA DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY <br />ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS STAFFING FOR ADEQUATE FIRE AND <br />EMERGENCY RESPONSE GRANT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER <br />TO EXECUTE THE GRANT APPLICATION AND TO ACT IN ALL <br />MATTERS RELATED TO THE GRANT APPLICATION ON BEHALF OF <br />THE CITY; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />RECITALS: <br />1. The Department of Homeland Security has initiated a grant program ("SAFER <br />Grant") to assist in the provision of funding to staff firefighters for emergency response. If the <br />grant is funded it will provide funding for up to two years salary without a requirement for the <br />City to match funds. <br />2. The Fire Department is recommending the submission of an application to fund <br />the nine new firefighters that will be hired mid-year 2010. If awarded for the nine firefighters the <br />value of the grant would be $994,891.00. <br />3. If the grant is awarded after the nine firefighters are hired, the money could only <br />• be accepted, at the City's option, for use in hiring an additional nine firefighters. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The submission of a grant application to the FEMA Department of <br />Homeland Security for a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant is ratified. <br />PART 2. The City Manager, Rick Menchaca, is authorized to execute the grant <br />application and related documents and to act in all matters related to the grant application and the <br />grant agreement on behalf of the City. <br />PART 3.
