CR-30-Public Housing 91.220(h); 91320(j) <br />Actions taken to addressthe needs Of Public housing <br />The San Marcos Housing Authority ("Housing Authority") provides decent, safe, and affordable <br />housinQforappnoxinnatdy632|nm+inoonnehnuseho|ds,indudinge|dedyanddisab|ed. <br />The Housing Authority Commission is made up of 4 commissioners and 1 resident commissioner. <br />Commissioners are the governing body of the Housing Authority and must work closely with the <br />Executive Director and local officials; they also communicate with the community regarding their <br />needs, concerns, and successes. Via their leadership, commissioners enable the housing agency <br />to fulfill its mission ofproviding affordable, safe, and sanitary housing in o sustainable, thriving <br />The City works closely with the Housing Authority regarding public housing issues. The Citvs <br />Mayor and Council members appoint the Housing Authority Commissioners. <br />Additional public housing and Section Ovouchers are definitely needed in San Marcos, as is <br />evidenced by the long waiting lists both programs typically maintain, especially for public housing <br />1-and 2-bedroonnunits. <br />These actions have continued to be taken by the San Marcos Public Housing Authority: <br />m Maximize resources and efforts to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the <br />housing authority's performance <br />• Improve rental assistance toaddress the need for affordable housing <br />m Reduce public housing vacancies <br />• Promote Homeownership through education about saving <br />Actions taken to encourage public housing residents to become more involved in management <br />and participate in homeownership <br />Each public housing complex has a resident Council orAssembly group which holds periodic <br />meetings to provide information on programs, gather input, and encourage communication <br />among residents. Sprin8tovvn Villa is the only site with an active Resident Assembly currently. <br />Chapultepec maintains a Program Coordinating Committee as part of the FSS program and has a <br />resident involved with this. Allen Woods, CM Allen, and Chepu|tepecare actively working to <br />reinvigorate participation in the Resident Assembly meetings. Resident organizations are actively <br />supported by the Housing Authority Resident Services department. Service coordinators <br />collaborate with other organizations in support of social gatherings, presentations, and <br />fundraising efforts. <br />The Housing Authority provides u variety of programs and continues to partner with local <br />agencies, faith -based organizations, Texas State University, and the City to bring resources to its <br />FINAL 2O24-2O2SCAPER <br />OMB Control No: z506-01o(ex .oe$»/2» 1) <br />16 <br />
